| Bus passengers in Swindon will soon be able to benefit from a system of “real time information” which will be available for bus services operated by Thamesdown Transport Ltd. The system is the result of partnership working between Swindon Borough Council and Thamesdown Transport Limited.
Marketed as “nextbus Swindon” the system will provide details of the expected arrival time of Thamesdown Transport buses at bus stops across Swindon.
The system incorporates the latest vehicle tracking and positioning technology to enable accurate information to be made available to passengers on predicted bus arrival times.
The initial phase of the system includes displays at 50 of the main bus stops in Swindon. It also includes a web site that will provide arrival time predictions for all bus stops in Swindon served by Thamesdown Transport.
The new system allows operational staff at Thamesdown Transport to monitor their bus services on a “real time” basis and ensure that they run as close to the advertised timetable as possible.
During April 2008 the system is under test and a full launch is expected during May 2008. Web access to the “nextbus Swindon” data will be through the existing www.swindonbus.info web site.
